Your First Steps
We want your introduction to Jiu Jitsu to be comfortable and empowering. Your journey begins with a private introductory session with one of our instructors. This 30-minute session will cover:
Your personal goals: We'll discuss what you hope to achieve.
Basic fundamentals: Learn how to tie your belt, common terminology, and class etiquette.
Warm-up movements: Get familiar with our class warm-up routine.
Introductory techniques: Learn 1-2 fundamental submission techniques.
Fitness evaluation: A baseline assessment to understand your current fitness level.
This private session is designed to ease you onto the mats in a low-pressure environment, allowing us to get to know you and help you feel prepared for your first group class. After this session, we'll schedule you to join one of our Fundamental Jiu Jitsu classes.
Preparing for Your First Session
To ensure a great experience, please keep the following in mind:
Attire: Wear snug-fitting workout clothes (spandex or dry-fit are preferred). Loose clothing can be a safety hazard.
Hygiene: Please arrive clean, with trimmed fingernails and toenails.
Jewelry: For your safety and others, please remove all jewelry before training.
Gi: If you own a training gi, please bring it. If not, let us know your size so we can have a loaner gi ready for you (first come, first served).
Embrace Learning: Jiu Jitsu involves a lot of learning and "failing forward." We're here to support you every step of the way as long as you're committed to learning!
